2007 CABERNET SAUVIGNON SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS

$300.00

Pinnacle Vineyard sits high above Saratoga on Mt. Eden. It is an historic estate that was once owned by the legendary California vintner Martin Ray, and now belongs to his son Peter. It’s an amazing place that is just oozing with history. I feel truly honored to work with this fruit, as it creates a nexus between myself and those before me whom have crafted wine from these gnarled old cabernet vines.

The 2007 growing season above Saratoga was one of the best in recent memory. Low rainfall, moderate temperatures, and a long, dry fall ripened this fruit perfectly. The resulting wine is really beginning to sing! Exhibiting a ruby/dark garnet color, it shows classic Mount Eden characteristics; Really soaking up its’ surroundings. On the nose and palate… extract of black currants and cherries are at the front with deeply earthy notes of cedar, ginger, anise and more just below the surface. So full bodied and rich but yet light on its feet to be sure! The intricate mingling of acidity and tannins give this wine a freshness,
complexity, and balance that is second to none. It enjoyed an élevage of 46 months in French oak to further increase its concentration. It is drinking really well now but will certainly benefit from 1-5 years of bottle age and continue to evolve for 20.
